How we treat depression
We start with a thorough evaluation, including screening for conditions that look like depression but need different care. Treatment usually combines medication, chosen and adjusted with you over the first 8 weeks, with therapy from our licensed clinician. We track progress with the PHQ-9 at each visit so adjustments happen early. If you are a VPMC primary care patient, we also look at sleep, thyroid, vitamin levels and other medical contributors in the same record.
What the first visit is like
A 60-minute evaluation with our psychiatric nurse practitioner, in person or by video. You'll leave with a clear plan and your next appointment booked.
Visits are in person in Reston or Lansdowne, or by secure video anywhere in Virginia. Evening video appointments are available.
If you are thinking about harming yourself, do not wait for an appointment. Call or text 988, call 911, or go to the nearest emergency room.
